Your Medical Record UW Medicine eCare is an Internet application that enables you to have secured web based access to portions of your electronic medical record, and allows secure messaging with your health care team. Messages you send via UW Medicine eCare will be made part of your permanent medical record. Once it is made part of your record, it will be accessible to current and future staff members who are involved in your care.
Secure Communication All UW Medicine eCare communications between you and your clinic health care team are carried over a secure, encrypted connection directly into the electronic medical record. While you will receive Internet e-mail messages notifying you of new messages in your UW Medicine eCare Inbox, these e-mails will never contain any confidential medical information. All medical information and UW Medicine eCare messages reside securely behind information system firewalls.
Access Codes When you initially enroll to use UW Medicine eCare, you will be provided with a 10 character access code. This access code will expire after 60 days. If it does expire you must receive a new access code. It is extremely important that you keep your UW Medicine eCare access code, login name and password completely confidential from everyone. If your access code and password is available to others, they will be able to view your medical information and communicate with your health care team as if they were you. It is your responsibility to prevent disclosure of your access code and to change your password if you feel your security has been compromised. You can change your password online at any time.
Are you ready to get started? You will need a release of information authorization form so you can participate in UW Medicine eCare. We require a valid email account and your social security number for authentication. If you have any questions about filling out the form, contact 206-520-UWMD (206-520-8963). When your clinic receives your release form, you will be mailed your startup information. It will provide you with: Your 10 character access code, answers to frequently asked questions, a guide to compatible computer and Internet operating systems, a reference guide for software operation along with other important information.
